As support for the monthly meetings, Jesse, Mirae and I thought it would be a good idea to create some sort of an online forum so that thoughts, suggestions, and threads could be carried on and developed from one session to the next. I chose 'blogger' as an interim format for a couple of reasons: one, I am by no means a web wizard and this is a format I am familiar with and two, it offers a straight forward, accessible format that we can work with until we decide to upgrade or change it up.
Anyone can read the blog and anyone can add a comment to a post, in addition, anyone who would like to be added as a contributor is more than welcome just send me an email at quietwake@gmail.com and i'll have you posting asap. If you have any additional questions about blogger and how to get set up, or if you have some suggestions for alternate formatting of the forum send an email my way or bring your ideas to the meeting on the 28th,

It starts...

At this moment in time, the city of Vancouver is experiencing unprecedented growth and change in virtually every sector of public life. The arts community is no exception and with eyes shifting to Vancouver for the 2010 Olympics, questions of what impact these changes will have is of increasing relevance. These concerns are arguably felt more acutely in the vibrant spectrum of 'artist run centers' that have been developing in the city over the last number of years. Increasingly, individuals who administer these spaces find themselves confronted with the fallout from these changes, from more opportunities for exposure and funding to epidemic rental shortages and strict zoning regulations.

The Tipping Point is a series of monthly gatherings aimed at addressing the issues facing artist run centers in Vancouver and will provide a forum for the voices involved in this exchange. It is our hope that these discussions will serve to foster an open dialogue throughout this community and to strengthen the ties between these spaces.

Working in conjunction with the memelab, The Franklin Office will begin hosting these monthly meetings in the form of a potluck starting Wednesday, May 28th at 5pm. Bring a dish to share, something to drink and your ideas. This first meeting will be fairly open in terms of its focus, with future meetings forming their content from the trajectories and threads of its predecessor. Come down and share some great food and interesting discussion with some amazing people, we hope to see you there!
